Artist's Statement

THANK YOU!

I want to thank all of the stock photographers who gave me permission to use their photographs. Visit the lovely ladies below:

I also want to thank Paul Houle for the javascript randomizer that I used on the images and text.

{x}pressed/{x}posed

I often find myself appreciating and idealizing that which the media portrays as beautiful.  I love fashion and make-up and photographs taken with professional lighting and printed on glossy magazine pages.  On the other hand, the beauty that the media shows is contrived when compared to un-edited and un-airbrushed women.

In my current work, I accept the glamorized “perfection” that the media lauds, but also critique it.  {x}pressed/{x}posed is a reminder that  beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.  As I randomly juxtapose text and image, they interact and tell a story – one that I do not dictate.

I hope to show that allowing oneself to be a little bit different and breaking out of the mold of the homogenized uniformity that society and the media portray as ideal are important components of true beauty.
